I've never had this problem here, but that is maybe partly because I fell victim to it elsewhere (fortunately for a trifling amount). Since then I will not use Friends and Family. There was one purchase I made that was a not for profit item that even went to charity (a guy was making a piece of retro computing hardware). There was a bit of an impasse, but I even offered to pay extra so that he wouldn't lose out, he declined it, but I think I paid him a bit extra anyway.

thanks for the warning, i will be wary of suspicious adds on this site as i may be looking for anoter used detector.komet wrote: Thu Jul 28, 2022 11:54 pm I had a reply to a wanted add I have on this site. We agreed a price and money was sent by PayPal friends as requested by the seller. I'm still waiting for the detector.Communication was good to start with, seller saying that had a problem with PayPal but as days turned into weeks it became obvious they had no intention of sending my detector. So only use PayPal not PayPal friends as you have no comeback on your purchase. Lesson learned!!

Just to put this into context we have only had one possibly a couple of issues at most regarding buying and selling in over 10 years
this topic was turned to a stickied post to try and prevent even these very rare problems from occurring in the future.
This specific issue the OP explains could of been avoided if he had simply used the normal PayPal method and had not paid by the family and friends option which offers no assurances at all.
