Clacton beach

Post by Mikenbike »

1) Which Beach - Clacton and Jaywick

2) Which area - Essex

3) Is metal detecting allowed - if you orientate yourself looking out to sea you can ONLY detect the left side of the pier.

4) Is a Permit Required - No

Important additional Info - ?

info supplied by Hags - Been to clacton detecting once and as far I know you can ONLY detect to the right hand side of the peir. No permit required. Obviously this is a busy beach during the warmer season. I visited last winter so not an issue on sunbathing etc.
I'm sure someone with up to date info will be along soon

I've not done Clacton beach because as Haggz mentions, it does get very busy. it is one that I am considering for an out of season visit though.

My research shows me that Clacton Beach is fine to metal detect with a few caveats:

1. The section of beach owned by Tendring Council is fine to detect, they allow it, and no SSSI applies.

2. As you are facing the Sea, there is a section of Crown Estate Land to the RIGHT of the pier, which stretches to the Toby Carvery near Wash Lane - that Crown Estate Land has an SSSI attached to it.

3.Tendring Council do want all holes filled.

4. With regards the SSSI, the ORNECS do not mention anything to do with recreational activities not being allowed, and metal detecting is certainly not mentioned. Personally I still wouldn't dig there though, there's plenty of beach stretching all the way to Holland on Sea.
