Use of pinpointer indoors.

Post by Treas »

Here's one for all you Pro-Find users:

I have been the owner of a Pro-Find 25 pinpointer since 2015, and I have to say I have been delighted with it overall.
The other day I needed to do a bit of drilling work indoors and I thought it would be an idea to use the pinpointer to check to see if there were any cables, or pipes where I was intending to drill. Managed to do this in the end, but noticed the pinpointer was certainly not perfoming how it should. It seemed to start falsing when not next to anything (starting to bleep in mid air).

Has anyone else experienced this indoors? Could it be a large temperature difference (from garage outside where stored, close to 0 degC, to inside the home), or higher EMI inside the home, or both? I decided to leave the pinpointer in the house to 'acclimatise', and this seemed to improve it (greater time before I needed to turn off/on, as a reset, but still didn't seem quite as happy as it normally does.

I guess temperature and EMI could cause the issues I was having, yes?

Temp unlikely, EMI very likely. [81/]

Thank you very much for the reply, which is reassuring. I guess detecting technology is much more sensitive than we often think.

All the best. [81/]
