Have you tried the purpose coil lug repair parts you can get from detector shops?

I was told recently by a very well known Garrett dealer (in Birmingham (2:) ) that there is no repair kit for a 400i. I presume the 300i is similar?

I have the Ace 400i and got the reaper coil just over a year ago. A bit heavier, still finds tiny things, and definitely more ground coverage. I'd recommend if you cover a lot of ground that's on the quiet side (most of mine), but not if you hunt in smaller trashier areas. If you buy, make sure you get the Ace version not the AT version. A coil lug on my 400i snapped off. I failed twice to fix it so bought a Nel Tornado as a replacement. It's on and working.

It seems a bit of a design fault to me, the way you have to scrap a working coil just because of a tiny bit of broken plastic. It is the weak link in the chain [84/]

Could you let us know how you find the Tornado compared with the original coil, after you've tried it a couple of times?

I’ve been out three times so far. It’s funny really - because the coil is such an integral part of the machine, it feels physically like a new detector but deep down it is still the same old machine.

Because the coil is noticeably bigger, on pasture you cover more ground, conversely though I found it a little numb forcing my way through soggy wet stubble, and picking it up and carrying it etc.

The sounds coming through my headphones have changed, I think they may be punchier and more precise however it’s hard to tell because they sound different.

Anything else I feel at this stage is guesswork. It’s supposed to give 20% more depth but that would be hard to prove when there are so many other variables and I’m not one for mocking up tests.

So for a brief recap, I can say for that it fitted well, the quality feels good, the extra size is good but I don’t feel quite as nimble using it, like the difference between driving a bigger car to what you’re used to.

EDIT. (30 May) Ive used it about 15 times and have now got used to the size increase. Also it appears to be better made (in terms of lugs on top) than the original 400i coil. It's still a sore point that the original coil broke in the way it did [84/]
