1870 Silver ½ Décimo from Chili

Post by Dave8472 »

Following on from my Irish coin found yesterday I realised I never posted this one up from 28th Jan this year x;

How does a coin from Chili end up in North Essex ? :~#)

Very nice condition and as you say unexpected, well found! There was a lot of trade between us and Chile at the time though (particularly fertiliser importing), so not entirely surprising.

Yep - Peruvian and Chilean guano fertilisers were the bee's knees for farmers at the time - hence south American fertiliser bag seals also come up quite often [08/]

Nice little silver. I find a gentle rub with the soft rubber from a pencil always does a nice job (if you plan to clean a little).
