Good question....If only coins could talk!!!!!.....154 years old and still looks great. Would you clean it a bit more or leave as is???.....Nice find, what next??... We never know!....
Very nice condition and as you say unexpected, well found! There was a lot of trade between us and Chile at the time though (particularly fertiliser importing), so not entirely surprising.

Yep - Peruvian and Chilean guano fertilisers were the bee's knees for farmers at the time - hence south American fertiliser bag seals also come up quite often
