Hi all as many seem to be that post here I am new to metal detecting. Am planning on heading down a few local beaches that appear purple on the crown estate map but would love to maybe buddy up with anyone local and try to find some other places to go. If anyone is interested let me know..

Hi Waxcandle
A warm welcome to our very friendly and knowledgeable MDF.

Unfortunately I'm a good 200miles + North of you... but getting out on the beach is a great place to start the hobby.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were to bump in to another detectorist whilst out.

You may want to look at a few sections of the forum to help you on your journey into the hobby.

The blue panel on the left is a great place to start and there is a beach section as well.

The guys and girls here are very friendly and knowledgeable...if you have any questions please ask.

Good luck on your trip to the beach...please let us know how you get on [81/]

Regards.

Hello and welcome - as others have pointed out Poole Bay is OK to detect. You'll find other detectors down there. If you fancy a trip, worth coming along to Weymouth and Portland MD Club, meets monthly, there will be people there to quiz on what and where.

Have a look at here... https://wpdetectingclub.wordpress.com/

You've just missed the March meeting, but drop in to the April one, third Monday of the month. You're assured a warm welcome [81/]

hi i live 5 minutes from Southbourne beach and have searched the area for years.

you can detect all the way from sandbanks through to Bournemouth then through to Southbourne until the prom ends.

its VERY hit and miss as theres so much sand movement.

99.9% of the time the finds will be modern and very sparse as the whole area is regulary detected.

dont let it put you off though as theres lots to go at

best at very low tides, look for the black sand. also summertime yealds the best stuff.

best of luck.
