There is no 'list' as such. You could have a look at the Crown Estate Foreshore map -https://thecrownestate.maps.arcgis.com/ ... a5aa1660db

This shows shaded in purple those parts of the beaches and foreshore which are owned by the Crown Estate - in theory you have a permissive right to detect there, but you would first need to check whether a particular part of beach is leased to a third party, or is subject to some statutory designation such as an SSSI, nature reserve, etc.

The parts that are not shaded in purple are owned by somebody else - typically the local authority or a private landowner and you would need to seek their permission.

As mrix says, there have been previous posts about beaches in your neck of the woods but just a little bit of research should get you up and running in no time [08/]

I've been out at Seaton Carew a couple of times and it was a proper chew on. Possibly not the best place for a beginner.

Just my personal view, but might you be better off trying to find a little grass paddock or small field?

Also, some machines won't work on wet beach, what machine do you have?

Much will depend on the detector's operating system as to it's overall suitability for beach detecting. As you're just starting out and have decided to use the beach for practice (though your back garden if available, is a sound alternative for practice/getting used to operating your machine) [42/]

The following link may prove helpful in understanding the reasons for some confusing anomaly signals you may (will) encounter when searching on salt wet sand or pebble strewn areas of the dry sand.
Some FAQ's including factors affecting a detector's response to some target objects
If you have any question, just ask away as members are always happy to answer them [81/]

Enjoy your new hobby, your first detecting trip to the beach (or back garden) and of course your time here in the MDF community [08/] Good Luck. Regards Eric
