Looking for a buddy in Suffolk to learn from and go detecting with

Hi, looking for a Metal detecting buddy that I can go detecting with and learn from as new to this hobby…I am 62 and from Ipswich Suffolk…Thanks

Hi Gaz, welcome to the forum and good luck in your quest for a buddy to learn the ropes from. Getting land is the biggest obstacle to overcome these days and so it will be a lot easier if you have some land and then invite someone on there with you.
I assume you have not bought a machine yet? If you have a machine then you can of course attend one of the commercial Digs and chat with others there.
I used to live in Melton and almost across from Sutton Hoo, had many exciting adventures down there near Rendlesham forest and on some of the land where I worked - HM Young Offenders Institute at Hollesley Bay.
Plenty of excellent advice on here from the very helpful members Obviously check out the Beginners section on the left menu, we ALL use that a lot! Liam

Have you tried Ipswich metal detecting club (iddc) as a poss starting point ?
Have you got some permissions yet ? I know you can go along most of Felixstowe beach for free.

You are probably best going to some of the pay to detect outfits. Most detectorists will be reluctant to share their sites with a stranger.
