A gold posy ring!

Post by RuthB »

Hi

I got up early this morning to get a few hours in before my kids were up and about. It’s a strange but special feeling being out and about whilst most people are still snoozing - beautiful, bright and so peaceful. I saw a couple of hares - definitely one of my favourite animals.

It felt like it was going to be a good day and I wasn’t wrong….second hole and out popped a beautiful, small, gold posy ring 🤩 I knew what is was immediately and it properly took my breath away. The inscription says ‘Faver my effection’ (Favour my affection). No hallmark. I believe it likely dates from the late 1600s to 1700s.

Thanks for looking 👀

Cheers, Ruth

Thats a corker! And still round! Good for you [81/]

Yeah the hares are just awesome, love it when they stand up. Love it when they exit the area at great speed effortlessly covering lots of ground. Also love it when i get close, didnt realise they were there, then they bolt off making me jump to put it politely. Creation is just breath taking.

Wierd one the other day, never seen a stoat..... then saw two in one morning, defo stoats as black tip on tail. they were miles apart so not the same one.

Well done Ruth, that's a smashing find. You must have been thrilled.

Yes, I occasionally see Hare's on one of my fields but they seem to be getting scarce.Maybe now that the harvest is getting underway I might see more of them.

Thanks folks for your positive comments, I’m genuinely thrilled 😁. It was only a month or so ago I was looking longingly at the images of a similar ring found by Phil2401; I commented then how special I think these items are and I feel incredibly lucky to have now also found one ☺️

I had wondered if the spelling of the phrase was accepted/standardised old English but apparently not; it’s phonetically spelt and so it’s possible the engraver was illiterate/semi-literate. A wonderful additional bit of personal history.

I’ve contacted my FLO 👍

Cheers Ruth
