Heacham & Hunstanton detecting.

Post by Ambology »

I am a local to the area, Does anyone know whom I'd have to contact to metal detect on Heacham or hunstanton or surrounding areas beach. I know that heacham and snettisham are privately owned, I'm just not sure where i would ask for permission.

There have been previous questions about those beaches - try entering the place names in the search facility in the blue panel on the left to have a look at the several old posts.

As for Hunstanton itself, this appears to be the current situation - https://www.west-norfolk.gov.uk/info/20 ... _detecting - scroll down and it tells you who owns Heacham and Snettisham beaches.

An added complication might be that all beaches along this stretch are within an SSSI - Magic Map extract attached shows the SSSI hatched in green.

Le Strange Estate owns the beaches at Old Hunstanton and Heacham. I've been in touch with them by phone (10.09.24) and they've said they do allow metal detecting on Old Hunstanton beach, but not on Heacham beach. This is due to there being too many tenants/organisations involved in that area (i.e. RSPB, SSSI, tenants, etc.), making it too difficult to agree. Disappointing, but hope this helps clarify the situation.

Not been able to contact Kenhill Estate regarding Snettisham beach yet.

King's Lynn & West Norfolk Council's website still state they don't allow metal detecting at Hunstanton.

Oh dear another one lost

Wonder what caused the change, it was okay around 20 years ago

Not filing in holes or digging into the cliff would be my guess
