Experiences with 15x12 coil ? Compensates ?

Post by Cyclopes »

Question for those who own the big 15x12 coil, is it really worth buying it?

Seriously though why are you thinking about it? If you want ground coverage it is certainly a massive improvement but I wouldn't be using it on busy fields, it is great for quiet pasture or the beach, but it is a good bit heavier than the 11". I've had some good finds with mine but I don't use it all the time. Only you will be able to determine if its worth it. [88/]

It is an extraordinary coil, very sensitive to small and poorly conductive objects, I personally do not feel heavy, it has an extraordinary coverage and good depth, but not too much higher than 11".
Not very sensitive to EMI.
On mineralized ground I do not recommend it, of course.

The Manticore is the first detector that I have ever had where all the available coils are actually pretty good. I use the 15 x 12 coil very regularly indeed as it's extremely sensitive and an inch or two deeper than the stock coil. Despite being designed for coverage it can even be used on busy ground but getting the swing speed right becomes even more critical than usual. I don't find the weight an issue.

Have you tried the 9 inch coil yet? Because of its size it's brilliant for getting between the junk on busy sites, goes almost as deep as the stock coil and the light weight transforms the balance. Probably my favourite coil. [81/]

Thanks, the 9" is on my wish list, but I'm undecided because I was afraid of a loss of depth compared to the 11", but if you tell me it's not that big, I've solved my doubts.
I have several plots where I would really need it.
