New Member looking for buddy - Woodford Green area.

Post by Roughley71 »

Evening,

I'm extremely new to metal detecting although I have recently been out on Brighton Beach just to get some practice in.

I'm wondering if there is someone around the Woodford Green area of London that I could team up with to show me the ropes.

I have had a look online and there doesn't seem to be any clubs near to me which is a bit of a shame.

I'm not far from you. There are no clubs, like you say, and getting permissions is very hard.

We go on some rallies, you could look up Let's Go Digging on Facebook. They do some rallies on the Essex/Suffolk borders. Apart from that, for us it's been the beach, or short term permissions when we go away to the countryside.

Keep at it, something will turn up.
Which sort of detector do you use?

Hi mate,

Thanks for the reply.

I'm thinking of approaching some farms nearby but I'm guessing it's easier said than done.

I'm using a Minelab Vanquish 440 which my missus got me for my birthday last year.

I reckon the farmers have been harrassed to within an inch of their lives around here for land to detect. I have tried some of them, and if I even get a reply then it's usually a polite no we don't allow it, or we already have someone. That said, if you don't ask you don't get! So, it's always worth trying, you may have better luck than we have done.

Minelab Vanquish, pretty good from what I have read.

Did you look at Let's Go Digging on Facebook? They are going to be having loads of rallies near Sudbury on the Suffolk borders.

They're always looking for new land, and they know the situation here in Essex, that is lots of Detectorists with no land, so it makes sense for them to operate around here.

I might be wrong in this, but I do seem to recall them saying that they also have land coming up in Maldon.

Morning mate,

Yes I saw that but nothing seems to have come of it.

I'll keep an eye out though to see if any digs do happen down this way. I'm surprised that there are no clubs whatsoever anywhere near me.

I'll keep trying and hopefully something will turn up.

Have a great weekend.
