Update on coin find.

Post by ROCK HOPPER »

As I was returning from detecting a local beach a man stopped me and asked if I had found anything, I said only weights and a few coins but I had this coin the other week and showed him this coin, he then said I know what that coin is as I collect them, it's a 1811 Cornish penny by Mr Williams of Redruth a mining Magnate.
One side shows a winding house and the other a pilchard with metal ingots on both sides. Hope this is of use to you all.

Local knowledge goes a long way, unless Allectus is on holiday in your area.

On one farm in East Cornwall I have unearthed half a dozen, like most copper coins/tokens from that era they do not survive too well in the highly mineralised soil found this area. This is one of the better ones.
