Sharing a detector

Post by NordicStar »

Hi all,

Newbie here and going on a first dig soon with a friend.

We are planning to share a detector, and I wondered if it is possible to connect 2 bluetooth headsets to the same detector? If not, we would just take turns using it.

Also, is it ok to use our normal bluetooth headphones and Iphone Airpods? I saw posts about special low latency/ Aptx headphones - is it much better to get those?

Many thanks in advance for advice.

Hello,
The proper answer I suppose is mostly, yes.
Depends on the detector as to which is the best method as I am finding out.
My wife and I often go out with one machine as it’s more social ( and she does not have to do the digging ! 😂)

With an Equinox 800, we got two WM08 modules and plugged earbuds into them, worked a treat.

But I have a manticore now and that wont accept two, so I got an August MR270 Bluetooth module, plugged into the headphone socket and connected Bluetooth earbuds to it. Again, latency is fine and works a treat. And, can be used from one detector to the next.
At £20, for the unit, a no brainer.

Hope you enjoy the dig,
Dan.

I did exactly this with my Deus to show a beginner some of the different tones. You can connect 2 headphones (one directly to the controller and the other wireless). I was demonstrating full tones/hot program at the time. It was an invaluable aid - especially when explaining those ‘mixed’ tones that could be iron/non-ferrous target. I am not sure on other detectors but I assume the same is possible.

Alternatively, if you are on your own permission and away from others, the solution may be to connect to a just one Bluetooth speaker so both of you get the audio.

Cheers, Copperballs
