Any clues at all please ?

Post by leggyno9 »

Hiya,
I found this a few days ago and nobody on facebook seems to know much about it so was wondering if this might reach a different audience. It's been reported to TT already but I am interested in any sort of information because I like it.
It measures 51mm each way roughly and a copper alloy maybe brass, in the area is a prehistoric or iron age burial pit and a supposed knights templar hospital and chances are the land would have been used by the abbots of Arbroath Abbey in olden times.
So far it's been suggested it might be Victorian, Georgian, Tudor, Roman or Aztec so pretty vague lol
If you wouldn't mind imparting any wisdo you may have it would be much appreciated please and thank youImage

TT is treasure trove, I'm up in Scotland. Haven't had a response from them yet but I initially thought pilgrim badge.
It's the first thing I've found that someone hasn't been able to immediately identify.
I think it's a beautiful wee thing and is probably part of a toy and not something overly interesting at all. As with everything else, it's treasure to me lol love a mystery [88/]

Could be a brass decorative figure from a fire iron set? Or part of a door knocker? Any features or detail on the back?

There's nothing that stands out to me on the reverse just that it's indented rather than flat.

There was a similar looking figure on Digging fot Britain tonight BBC2 .. about two thirds through where there were excavating Leicester ... but topping a Roman Key Handle ,,, the figure was described as a Barbarian ,,,, I can see from your figure that it appars to be wearing a toga ... Note the similarity of the hair cut :) :) https://le.ac.uk/news/2021/august/roman-lion-handle
