First Goldmaxx finds - some help required!!

Post by tim66 »

Evening all. Have managed a couple of trips out with my new toy this week and have a selection of finds for your perusal :-/

As far as I can work out I have a William III silver hammered? A half hammered but no idea of age. A couple of thimbles and a couple of complete mystery items. One looks like a small stirrup the other I am sure is a shotgun cartridge cap apart from the small brass handle out of the side :)) Also unknown coin next to what I think is a lead token?

Look forward to your replies =D>

Tim

The coin next to your lead token looks like a George II Halfpenny...
You seem to have a very nice site there...well done

Looks like William III Sixpence to me mate and its not hammered its milled if you look around the edge you will see lines this is the milling, the shotgun thing is an early shotgun cartridge they have these little firing pins.
That willy sixpence is in good condition to mate they are normally worn flat.
Nice finds. :)
Good machine isnt it.

The William III i think is a "first bust" sixpence, but would need a closer look at the legend and the size of the coin...

Thanks Bruce. :)) The top two photos are from a dig that I went on today. The other two are from a moated pasture site I have aquired and only just had a quick go at. Hope to find more once the grass has been cut! One odd thing I noticed in the pasturew was that I was digging up cartridge ends from 7" deep though the field hasnt been ploughed in living memory. Would the horses in the field push them that deep when its wet?

Yep Its a great machine Paul though it seems to be a case of learning what sounds to ignore rather than which ones to look out for!! [:)

Tim your retirement package lies in the stirup looking thing without a doubt it is a Roman (1st century I think) Ball joint splitter for splitting tho ball joints on chariot track rod ends getting them ready for the MOC (misnistry of charriots).
