Hi all
can you give me some advice I have been asked to look for a ring that was lost whist bathing in the sea. The ring was lost about 2 meters from the low tide line and is platinuim. The beach in the wet areas sinks quickly when stood on the low tide line. The help I'm asking is that the said beach will have a negative low tide for one day this week of -0.1 so do you think the tide will receed enough for me to get the detector in and find the ring. It was lost on Friday will it of sank to the hard pack by now or still in the upper part as I dug over1 ft and never hit a hard pack.
Please help as I need to make a decision to travel down the that beach and have a go.
Oh and it will be in the dark as it's a midnight tide
thanks Dolph

I am no beach expert and hopefully one pops in soon, but from what i have read the platinum ring being heavy and in wet sand it will "probably" have sunk down as far as it will go.
The only saving grace for you is the ring shouldnt of travelled away from the lost site......
I would suggest running your machine as hot as the area will allow you to....
Good luck, you may be lucky and the ring has hit hard enough sand to balance the weight out......
Sorry i know nothing about the tides so cant answer that one.....

Cheers Bruce I'm hoping the ring hasn't sank too far but I'm wondering how much the tide will of rolled back to hopefully give up the drop site as the ring was lost in the sea with a low tide of 1.1m so with a -0.1 low tide will this make the tide line lower than the drop site

Well went last night for the midnight low tide. When we got there at 8pm the tide was still up near high tide so couldn't access the beach but there was a weather front coming in and the waves were massive. So for 2 hrs we went to another beach but no finds for me. Anyway we made our way back to the target beach and started at the high tide line working our way to the low tide at midnight. Soon as the area where the ring had been dropped was clear we moved in for a run through that's when mother nature said NO boys your not getting anything the waves were crashing in the area with such fury then to top things off the heavens opened. As this is not our normal beach but are familiar with the beach. We were starting to get a bit concerned after 5 minutes of getting bashed by waves trying to knock us off our feet and a rain shower that soaked us to the skin I said we got to get off here as for our own safety. So the only chance we had was lost but I would rather lose the chance of a find than loose any of our equipment or even worse any loss of life by night beach hunting and no one around to help in any such case.
But on reflection it was a good night and a good experience and think if anymore night hunts happen will be restricted to top line beach hunting.
Thanks Dolph

never mess with the forces of nature. Id never water hunt in the dark either!!
Id say its gone.. when things get lost on the low tide mark you have to be quick. one the tides had a go at moving that sand you have no chance.. (or very very little chance)
