Yep a GREAT BIG SLICE of it, and 2 slices if I come back with a hammered after going back and trying again.
Theres still alot for me to learn though, It cant all be learned in a couple of hours Im aware of that, but what I learned was very useful, and just a starter to my learning curve.
It was very impessive though, but weather I can use those settings on the land I want to detect on is another matter, Thats when Ill have to learn something different, or get me oldie out and take the easy route
Who says "you cant teach an old dog new tricks" Wal can !!!
To be honest I only upgraded from my ace 250 not cos it was'nt finding stuff just because I wanted a newer more gadgetry machine not because I really needed it just found in the past that money burnt a very quick hole in my pockets lol
But where I got it said a mid range £500 machine will be just as good as a £1000 + machine and in some cases better as the x-terra 705 has pulled out some very good deep finds and lots more coins including some nice hammies, a William 1111 groat another crotal bell from a site with a tiny little particular field done to death with my ace or so I thought and still producing the goodies so not interested in a deus or e-trac's Im sticking with the 705 and the savings could help me buy some more trousers with pockets in....now I learnt my lesson

Threw some silver, romans etc on the floor and a roman inbetween 2 bits of iron.... went through programs and frequencies showing how the tones change etc.... we also went through what the deus is telling us and what we should expect of it... Plus a couple of secret bits....... after getting on his knees and kissing my feet, (there was no need Phil)
think he went away a bit more confidence in the deus..... we'll see......
Thanks Wal!
Believe it or not, I learned quite alot, I was as specially impressed with the frequencies.
( dont laugh right ! ) but I thought the different frequencies were just for changing if you were getting interference from other detectorists, electric fences etc. I would never have dreamt the effects I saw with my own eyes, by changing the frquency how the machine could find that coin between the lump of Iron and the steel spanner, it picked it out lovely and gave that sweet dig me dig me signal. I am alot more confident, in fact Ill be in touch about a trip to the now famous field. Im deffinately taking the deus with me and going to give it another crack.
Thanks to everyone whos given me tips and got me thinking the deus way.
And a special thanks to Wal aka Kmarsh for his hospitality, time and knowledge oh and for the goodies
Phil.
Yeah.... lets see if we can master the field Phil, look forward to it...........

Im listening to everyone pal, Ill even bend your ear when I see you.
Happy Christmas to you and your missus too Ray.
All the best !!

Hello Phil.Just been reading through your post and it reminded me of when I first got my Deus.
I was disappointed too,but it was all down to not understanding the machine.
I love my machine now and would not swap it for anything. It does it all, fresh ploughed, pasture, beach.
I have total trust in it now.Hope you stick with it bud.Good luck.
Hi all, we are now on page 8, on a topic that would probably have been locked off way before now.
These topics usually end up in a cat fight, members getting too heated about THEIR chosen machine.
We all have individual choices for cars, homes, food and anything else in our lives. What suits us may not suit someone else and its no good telling them that sushi is the most brilliant oriental food ever, if we don't like it, then it will never taste good enough to eat.
mrix has been hard at work on this topic, removing some replies that did not do credit to the excellent standards we have worked hard to achieve, for the benefit of all.
Looking back on the input from the members, Deus owners and others, this post probably, for me anyway, stands out as a great example of how we can debate a sensitive and passionate topic and still end up with success for all concerned. Its still ongoing and I hope Phil posts some pics of his celtic hoard later on
Well done to all, especially Wal. Liam B-)
Deus, WSi's - In the end we will regret the chances we didn't take, the relationships we were afraid to have and decisions we waited too long to make .. Lewis Carroll
your right Liam. A surprising result, a topic starting on a downer may now be on the up for Phil. thanks to all who contributed to this topic, and hopefully a happy ending......... also shows all is not lost for all you folks who cannot seem to grasp the detector of your choice and feel the only way forward is to buy another.......... Thanks again......

Hi Liam,
Dont think Ill be finding any Celtic hoards on the land I go on mate, Maybe the odd coin ( which would do for me )
Im looking forward to getting back onto the hammy field, but im working all weekend, so Ive got to be patient there too.
Im hoping to take Wal with me ( my insurance man ) so he can actually show me whats what with ground conditions of that particular field, that way Id get an even better understanding of the machine, It`ll be rate!! Ill get there in the end Im sure, Gunna find it hard to let go of my oldie but goodie though I know that for sure.
Dont worry Ill be back on here to report how weve got on, I feel a hammered comming on
Hi Phil and everyone, what a great debate! However, I am now going to be Mr Spoilsport and ask that any future posts that deal with specific Deus functions are posted in the right XP section so that the members can more easily find it? We seem to be heading towards the selection of programmes and how best to use them for varying conditions and this will be very valuable on http://www.metaldetectingforum.co.uk/vi ... 48&t=19364" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
We have different sections for different Deus functions.
I hope that does not sound impolite, just that the information is now so good that we have to have it in the right place, Liam B-)

thanks for that Dave, this post is a really good one, not only about the Deus but about ANY machine that is maybe top end and has a lot of technical ins and outs that need to be understood. By all means keep the thread going in terms of encouragement and general interest in finding out how Phil gets on with the Deus but when it leads to specific topics such as coils, control box, programmes etc, then we need to have those "on the right shelf" for others to find later on.
With Christmas upon us, Santa will be delivering new machines to lucky forum members and some will find themselves in the same position as Phil, a very experienced detectorist with a new machine that is radically different from his old model. I know of a few detectorists who have moved to a newer machine but still have the old one and take it out now and then, always good to have a spare machine in the boot I suppose, Liam B-)
