What lies beneath.

Post by Barnet »

Took a couple of pictures of my local beach the other day. About 4-5 foot of sand had been removed from one area, revealing all sort of strange bits and bobs including two long forgotten breakwaters.

With no metal detector, I managed to fill a carrier bag with lead weights and pickup a few coins from the 1920's including a nice half crown, it's just laying ontop of the bedrock.

i'm assuming the bottom picture is a fuel tank from something.

Didn't have my detector with me just the camera, as most of the ground is bedrock it digging isn't possible, I know a detector would have winkled out the finds from under rocks, but it was great just to make some finds with eyes only.

If it hasn't disappeared by next weekend, i'll get the detector out. If not it can wait for another year or two.

Hi Steve, after reading about your exploits, eyes only, I stopped at the beach today, for 5 minutes. A bit late, for the tide was just about covering the pebbles, but I managed to find an old fishing weight. It was quite relaxing just wandering and looking. Will definitely have to get down with the Sovereign.

Don't know how long it will last, there is also a nice little patch further along towards Littlehampton thats exposed right up by the shoreline. Haven't checked around any other areas been full of man flu.

Wow thanks for posting those pictures, hope to see some of my local beaches like that in the future. I could spend hours/days detecting there.

Great images and looks like a dream area to run over with the detector.

Wherever this is you can't fail. Bound to be gold rings and early silver coins, just go and do it.
