ACE 250 or ACE 150 advice please

Post by catkinq »

Hello, I'm a newbie here. My daughter (10) wants a metal detector. We have researched it a bit and have narrowed it down to the ACE 250 or 150. Does this sound reasonable and can anyone suggest which we should go for? She is hoping to use it to find coins etc in our garden (fairly large, rural - we thought that we'd bury a few to get her started). Any advice much appriciated :)

the 250 is by far the best out of the two machines. Your daughter will find things with both but the 250 has several features that the 150 does not.

Go on be a good Mum and get her a 250.

Hi Hayley.....and welcome..
I havent used either of the machines you mention .....but...i would think the biggest question you need to ask the members here who have used them is "will it be light enough for a 10 year old and also will the stem shorten enough for her to use"
So hopefully the guys will be along soon with some advise....

Having said that i would go for the 250 because of the extras and the fact the 250 will pinpoint the targets, which would be a must for your daughter.....

Take a look here at the cscope 3mx which has been reviewed with a video by one of our members....it is slightly more expensive but might prove lighter......and it is a good machine

Here is another piece written by one of our members concerning the Cscope 3mx
Went to a little shop in Dewsbury and got me c scope cs3mx.The chap in the shop is a detectorist himself and gave me lots of good advice . I cant get over how light it is and it really is so easy to use. thanks again everyone for the advice. cant wait to go on my first outing now.Lynn

My advice would be the ACE 250. My daughter wanted to do some metal detecting so I bought the ACE 150 found a couple of bits including £1 coin nothing major, but after about 2 months I then bought the ACE 250 for the pinpoint feature.

Dont get me wrong the ACE 150 does a great job I just got a bit fed up dig massive holes for ring pulls. The size and weight should not be an issue for your daughter, my daughters 9 and can use it.

Hardest thing I found is finding land to search on, just got my first farm today meeting with the farmer in the morning.

If your choice is between the two, then the 250 would be my choice, for the extra features. Im sure it would lower enough for your daughter to be able to hold it right.

Can you get to a detector shop and just make sure before you purchase?
Cheers
