Minelab Explorer xs....GULP
well....just got my explorer xs through the post (s/h from fleabay) took it outside for a test.....O.M.G,its like something from area 51 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! .i must explain that ive ALWAYS been a Cscope devotee, starting with an old scope 1220-b before moving up to a cs5mx.This minelab is a totally different beast with an instruction book thats like a bible !( the 5mx book is a mere wafer).
I do know from the previous owner that its set in general farmland mode so thats handy.what i need advice on is which numbers do i dig ?????? ive done some air tests and had various numbers flash up on the screen,i will obviously create a test bed on our permission when we go out at the weekend but ANY advice from minelab pro's MUCHLY appreciated.im starting to read the manual but feel totally out of my depth.me thinks ive got to cosy with my single tone cscopes over the years.

i have had minelab for years and they are the best, forget the numbers get into advance and get smart screen up this is the best screen, look at the little box inside of screen and when it goes to top left iron no dig. when it moves around screen its looking for type of metal size ect always dig any signal as long as its not in top left feal free to ask any more question.dont get frustrated this is a good site and people are here to help

Hi Thirddegreewitch!
I like you have just bought an Explorer XS (also 2nd hand of eBay) - just waiting for it to be delivered. And like you, I too have been a C-Scope user (keeping my CS3MX as a back up machine as I like it so much!)

Again, like you, I am slightly petrified at the aspect of delving into programming the machine as I have been so used to turning on the sensitivity to max, then discrim to 3 and away I go! I just thought I needed to have more options - i.e if the tools are available, use them! Hence my investing in the Minelab.

No doubt both of us will be pestering the forum members with questions in the near future - so it would be good to measure each others progress in the learning curve!
Please feel free to PM me if you find something out that you feel might be of help to me and I will do the same if I find anything out.
I have just joined the Minelab owners forum - they seem a very friendly and helpful bunch so it might be worthwhile you doing so to?
Best regards
Mike

Hi guys
Ive been using the exp 2 for a good while, and have also posted beach and land patterns on the explorer forum section.
Have a go at using these patterns, they work but will also give you an insight into programming the machine.
If you need any help give me a shout
General rule is dig everything in the right 2 thirds of the screen.I dont really use the numbers part, just my ears and sometimes the crosshair screen, but that comes with experience.

Hi
Just wondered how you were doing with your XS?
I haven't had a chance to go out to use mine yet due to work commitments, but I am hopeful of having a detecting weekend this coming sat and sun. I have a couple of permissions of my own so will contact one for Saturday and I have a club dig planned on Sunday.
I had a look on the Minelab owners forum and managed to program in one of the programs that were available (from Tony Hunt I think his name is) - I am going to try that out at the weekend so you never know! I would recommend visiting the site - they are very friendly and helpful with advice and can talk you through any problems you might have.
Best regards
Mike
