I recon that if you are getting 50% pedecimal that spot hasn't been over detected.
Remember that pre 1948 silver coins are 50% silver and pre 1920 ones are .925 silver which equates to 30 times face value for the pre 1948 ones and 58 times face value for the pre 1920 ones. So a pre 1920 florin or two shilling piece can be scrapped for around £5.

I sell the fishing weights back to the anglers when I see them on the beach. ( 50p for a 4oz weight)

Black sand is visible after a storm and as it is a bottom layer it can contain older items.

Where you ger a ripple trough, that is where the sand dips into a trough and looks rippled or wavey heavier items like gold rings can be deposited.

Look on old postcards to see which part of the beach the victorians used.

You can make a sand scoop by cutting down a plastic bottle or 5 litre container and melting holes just slightly smaller than a 5p in it, or even better get a garrett propointer £85 from Regtons.

Good hunting!

By the way what coast are you detecting on?
