New steel 5p piece now got the 10p piece.
Finally found a couple of the steel clad 5p pieces in my change, done a quick test over a few detectors.
T2, zero disc, tones 2+ Meter id 34.
G2, zero disc Meter id12-15.
Minelab XS blank screen cursor top left.
Whites XLT no disc Meter id -80.
Rutus Jupiter zero disc Meter id 0.
Only a quick indoor air test with minimum sensitivity, still waiting to find the 10p.

Well done, it's been a long wait, since April last year, originally. Presumably it is dated 2011?

Hi Dave, a little thicker 11% I think is the official figure. All vending machines are going to have to be changed to take them.

The reason I asked about the date on them was that they were supposed to be issued on 1st April 2011, and a huge number were produced in readiness, dated 2011, so I guess they must have been busy striking a load more 2012 dated ones, too.

A sad day when I found these in circulation. 10p's start in Steel form from 2011, but I have only found 2012 5p's in SteelFusion wrote:The reason I asked about the date on them was that they were supposed to be issued on 1st April 2011, and a huge number were produced in readiness, dated 2011, so I guess they must have been busy striking a load more 2012 dated ones, too.

Same here Dave only 5p's.
Still wondering if the 20 and 50 pence's will go the same way.
On a slightly different note reading in the paper fake pound coins in circulation is at an all time high. Anybody found any of these, if so what readings are they giving.
Bob.

Hi Bob, before I had perfected the cleaning of pound coins, I used to put them in the change converter machines in Sainsburys and used to get loads rejected, but they looked ok to me, but apparently many of the fakes are rearly good quality ones ?bob79 wrote:Same here Dave only 5p's.

I now clean and put back in to general circulation, but again have never found an obvious fake

I've tested several fake pound coins, they behave identically to the real ones. There are a few threads where they are discussed in more detail:

Took the lot that wouldn't go in the machine in to the bank, they scratched each one to make sure it was gold under that brown colour and accepted them in with my employers bankingbob79 wrote:Said in the paper, if you spend the unknowingly you are still breaking the law.
Bob.

They normally won't just swap them unless you have an account with them and are paying in, the women had a bag full of coins that we're not suitable for circulation.
We tried to inadvertently to bank a fake £20 note

Had a steel clad 10p piece in my change today at last. Only realised when I pulled my phone out to look on forum [can't leave it alone even when I'm out] it was stuck to the magnetic clasp of the phone case.
Will try out on the detectors when I get time, it is dated 2011.

Good point Ferret, bet the Treasurery never pencilled that into the equation when they were having a discussion about it.
