Help needed with strange Pig? shaped item

Post by Oldest Swinger »

Took Grandson no1 (chronologicaly) to my land yesterday and one of his finds (he had some good ones) was a strange pig shaped item. It is very heavy and hard like bronze but more the colour of lead and seems to have the head and snout and the hind quarters of a pig with a curved cross pattern across its middle. I have included a pic of it sat on a very worn cartwheel penny for size comparison. Would be great to get some sort of idea (or a variety of ideas) of its identification in time for him coming round after school. He is also looking to join the forums shortly god bless him and god save the rest of us.

Ps he is nearly 15, loves the Ace and has taken to tone recognition like a duck to water.

Interesting Paul.......But if the part shown is his snout, then where are his front legs?.....any markings showing if they were there?
The hind quarter does look like a hind quarter......

I found something similar a while back albeit, much smaller.....It is in the shape of a cockeral.....and made of lead........

Could be part of a gameing piece....early farmyard piece.

You should get back out in that field. There's four legs, a head and a tail somewhere out there!
