Thinking of going here in the next few weeks, could someone give me some info on the area?

There's a cracking swan sanctuary nearby at Abbotsbury.

During the summer months at least they prohibit metal detecting on Weymouth beach between 0900 and 1600 hrs.with beach wardens to enforce it.
Just after 4pm its like the le mans race start lol.
During winter months no restrictions.
The popularity of all in one mini shelters with plastic floors has led to quite a diminished modern loss find rate.PaulB.

Local understanding with the Council is no detecting on the beach between 9am and 4pm - too many tourists etc.

Check with http://www.wpdetectingclub.org.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they may be able to give you more info.

When I was there last year I was told by the beach manager no detecting between 10am and 6pm, unless it's raining or cold and the beach is empty, but it's worth doing if you can fit in with the times and I'll be there in early June myself. Check the tide tables online for high tide time and there are also some beach webcams online so you can watch what's happening.
Cheers, John

The website hasn't been updated since 2007 I doubt the club still exists.
