Hi Steven,

On my last detector if discrimination was set to a certain value, then any target with an id of less than that value was blanked out.

So on the Deus in Basic 1 for example, the discrimination is set at 10, so I was expecting any iron etc with an id of 10 or less, would get blanked out (ie. you would not hear it).

But with the Deus, discrimination works in conjunction with Iron Vol, some people still like to hear the response from iron, but possibly at reduced volume. This is where the Iron Volume control comes in.

If you don't want to hear a response from targets between 1 and 10, set Iron Vol = 0.
If you want to hear a faint response from targets between 1 and 10, set Iron Vol = 1.
If you want to hear a louder response from targets between 1 and 10, set Iron Vol = 2.

And so on until with Iron Vol = 5, you get a the same volume response as targets with an id of over 10.
See page 12 of the manual.

pinslayer i am interested in what you say and wonder when discrim is on why when the iron volume comes through at numbers 1 2 and 3 does it come through in a high tone rather than the low tone of 200 that it is set at by default, this does disturb my concentration thanks for any answer you may be able to give me as it helps me to understand what it is telling me

Hi sugar,

If the id of the iron etc is less than the discrimination setting, then it comes though in the low tone.

If its a rusty old bit of iron whose id is jumping about over the discrimination level, then you would probably get high and low tones.

I've tried it, and those were the results I experienced.

It was not an easy route, lots of experimentation and really trying to understand WHAT the signals were saying. In the end I got to know what settings suited me and I was happy to tweak away slightly as the soil conditions changed
I now have the Deus, still using the factory presets and I am happy ... so far.
For me it will be another slow process, not wishing to alter anything unless I know for certain what knock on effect it will have.
I bow to those who have all sorts of personalised programmes and who say that it has improved their finds. Good luck to them. In time I will join them, for now I will keep on bringing in the goodies on the boring old same GMP prog and will experiment as time goes by.
There may be lots of Deus owners out there who think that because they can twist and turn the settings this way and that, read too many online reports of who did what and claim some gold, that they too must follow.
For those who know how the Deus works, then fine but for those who have just got the machine I would be wary of altering the recommended settings unless well advised, Liam ;)
Well Liam, all I have used so far is GMP mode - though I do have one created programme for a clean field of mine. Basically its GMP mode again but with sensitivy maxed out. :D
I am sure I will check out the other programmes but for now I am mega happy
Great feedback here guys ! Just trying to take on board some of the tweaked settings in...
Cheers !

Hello Pinslayer

Sorry for late reply & thanks for the explanation re Descim and the Iron Vol, easy when you know how. I am working more with my new Etrac now but will take the Deus out again very soon.

Cheers

Steven.
