Does anyone detect on Slapton Sands?

Post by Neil&Julie »

I watched a programme on Operation Tiger, and I was wondering if anyone detects on Slapton? I've checked the crown maps and the permit does offer permission (which I'm surprised at), but who has detected there and what do you find?

Most likely to find lumps of iron in abundance. It's been trawled over by loads of people over the years. Read the other thread about Ken Small - he had a huge collection of finds, but that was 30 years ago...

I found a gold ring and 303 bullets, fishing weights, coins some older ones i guy i know has found very old hammered gold coins on the beach but what end i don't know. There is a lost village at one end of the beach that's lost to the sea the beach is all pebbles and the east end has a lot of ammo on it.Just up the coast is a Blackpool beach which is private but the owner let me on it for a day some years ago found a few rings and over 30 pound coins plus lots of modern coins.

I've done slapton. Loads of fishing weights, aluminium shrapnel, decimal coinage, nails, all standard stuff. Not had anything decent though unfortunately. It's tough to see (and dig) stuff amongst the stones. I didn't have a pin pointer at the time, that would have helped ofc. Still one of my favourite beaches. Gets some vicious waves there though most days, so things get moved around a lot more than sandy beaches.
