Stone beaches

Post by Anubis »

Looking for some advice, does anyone have any advice on working stone beaches, the stones are cobble sized, will the density make detecting difficult or impossible?

Thanks guys

Detectors like the coil to be close to the ground and not inches of fresh air under them.

Having said that give it a go as finds have come from pebble beaches in the past.

Chesil Bank in Dorset comes to mind. ::g Jerry.

There is a stone beach that i go to and have had abit of luck on it, however that is after a storm, when the sea has dragged some of the top pebbles back into the sea, i use my etrac and it has no problem detecting in this situation.

But these type of beaches should not be avoided, it does put alot of people off, however, that just means more for you to find ::g

I went to one today, on Bawdsey beach near the manor. What a flamin hard job with all the stones. I kept finding small bits off the bomber that crashed on there, but nothing else. Knocked it on the head and moved to the sand at low tide near the ferry towards the estuary Found some interesting bits in the low level beach and some £2.10 in fresh spends towards the top.(probably from the day before or weekend as it was fresh and clean).
I've yet to clean up the interesting bits to see whats what. Brick cleaner tomorrow, lol.
Yeah stones.....what a flamin chore!
I was stationed at Bawdsey in the early 70s to do my RADAR training and the Manor was the officers mess. I was hoping that the Ruperts would have dropped all their loot when frolicking on the beach, but no, the tight ****s Maybe some of the Victorian gentry, but they appeared to be tighter than a ducks **** and thats water tight!

The place I am looking at faces a church where the land has eroded so I'm hoping that there may be some stuff among the pebbles.

deffinatly, and i will be returning to that said beach after some stormy weather ::g

I think it was just a bad time and was never going to be as many targets as a sandy beach.

Good luck when you go:)

it is hard work, but it can be fruitfull.
my finds tend to come at the transition beetween the rocks and the sand and try to watch where people go into the water, they lose stuff.
dont be afraid of detecting over stones, try and do the top side as this is where the finds get stuck when the tide goes out. it is awkward and hard work, but think what could be there, after all most people do not bother if it's hard. :)
