Help on how to Avoid big Iron and Coal lumps

Post by Slow & Low »

Hello

I have been getting good tones and numbers with my Deus v2 but when digging I am finding some large lumps of rusty Iron and also coke. I am using GMP programme and also tried Basic 1

Is there some tweaking of the Deus which will not cause me to loose out on finding any Silver, Gold coins or chance of hammies please

Cheers

Steven.

Not had my deus for all that long but feel ive got a good grasp of it now. Sounds like you might be better off in a different mode for your site. Deus fast seems very good for iron infested sites. For mine I notch out 1-12 so I don't hear those tones at all, and have iron volume on 1 (as I find its a good idea to get some 'feedback' from the trash). Hardly dug any iron items at all like this, with plenty of good items coming up. You'll still get gold/silver too this way. Like anything it takes practise to get good with it and to distinguish different targets so keep at it. ::g

Thanks HiHoSilver

Not too sure how to Notch out but will look at manual to try and do this.
These big iron bits seem to come in the 80's - 90's range

The Coal seems to come in arround the 45's - 55's range which is nearly spot on for what the chart says in the Deus manual.

I won't give up on the Deus as it doesn't half pull up tiny buttons.
Maybe one day i will find a Silver Stater or a hammy, or some roman or maybe gold. Like people say you have to walk over it to find it.

Cheers

Just hit the menu button (top middle button) on the controller unit and the 'notch' and 'disc' settings, etc are there. Lots of options to play around with.

Thanks Hihosilver & Loud ed !

I thought Hammereds come in the high 90's will have to pay more attention to them. I always dig everthing on a high tone and sometimes some low tones but I am still trying to control and avoid iron comming in the 80's numbers or should I just avoide digging in the 80's - 90's

Will have a look Hihosilver what you suggest and trial it maybe.

Cheers

Dig everything. It's the only way you'll learn your machine. Don't let that number determine whether you dig or not as you'll be missing some good stuff. After a while you'll know what to dig and what to leave. Once you've dug 1000s of targets you'll just know what's iron and what's coke. I wish I could tell you there's a short cut but there isn't.."...

coke should come in under 30 so if you dont dig under 30 you will miss most coke. ignore the next bit if you don't want to confuse the issue but its a pro tip a mate gave me.

i also turn my discrimination down to 0 then set the second tone down t 200hrtz so it sounds like iron and set it to go up to vid 30 essentially im discriminating out 0 to 30 but by using the tones not the discrimination, you get much better depth that way. iron you just got to dig

Good expert tips from tombs. I also use custom tones to distinguish number ranges. I very rarely even switch on the control box.....

thank you, im always hesitant to post on the deus being manly an etrac ctx user :-O
your right on the leave the control box off, that thing only stops you digging(its the same on any detector) and treasure is only found by digging!

I'm confused too! Surely the purpose of most machines is the facility to be able to discrim iron etc. Saying that, I don't discrim, I just don't dig it :)

not ALL iron but if its a small signal yes i will dig it because 1 in 10 its a button and 1 out of 20 of the buttons is a hammy.

yes that's true, but no detector is 100% on discrimination so you have to dig some or miss stuff also really bad ground will make deep non ferrous sound like iron, i have recently learned that on really really bad ground with the etrac you can use it in conductive with the screen wide open( no discrimination!) and the deep 8" none ferrous that was being discriminated has a slightly diferant sound to it than the iron. so i dig those iron tones.........you can do a similar thing with the deus some iron tones you can just tell are actually no ferrous by the size etc of the signal.
thats why when your learning a detector they say dig every thing.....otherwise you will never know what your missing ::g
