CS4PI 23/8

Post by ray77 »

Used the detector hip mounted tonight and did longer than last night with no pain so this is the way for me to use it. Also with the hip mount I have one of those waterproof coats that roll up into a small bag that is far too big for me so can be worn over the hip mount to keep the control box dry.
The beach I did tonight I have done with all the detectors I have had without digging too much rubbish but thanks to the PI I now know it is infested with small iron.
Again the detector set up with no problems and was very stable. I had 5 signals that I did not get out due to the hole collapsing, these were weak signals which suggests they were deep but until I get a chance to do some tests I can`t be sure.
Find wise a lot of small iron and a few bigger pieces that all went in the bin and the following,
£1.04
1919 penny badly worn but can just make out the date, this was from higher up the beach so the hole was not collapsing and was about 8 inches down.
Badly worn silver coin right size for old 5p
Fishing weight
Very large paper clip
Spoon handle
11 x Tent pegs
Brass dog tag
Levi stud
With the amount of tent pegs I`m finding I think I should call my detector Peggy. :D
Once I`ve Had the detector long enough to do different beaches in different conditions I will do a proper review.
Thanks to anybody that read this far.

i dont know if its correct, but i read somewhere that iron detects nearer the outside of the coil of a pi when it passes over it, so its possible for a bit of discrim by listening to the the sound nearer the outside than the inside.
try it out and see if it helps? [:)

Thanks for that. Did notice that some pieces were pinpointed off center compared to the good targets. Will take more notice next time.

Hi Ray,

I often find that when I get a strong signal and it looks like being a larger target; it is generally iron that comes out of the sand on the end of my spade. I also have the same problem with sand falling back into the hole that I am digging; maybe a special digging tool for wet sand would be the answer?

Hi Chris,
Thought about the digging problem a lot while on the beach last night. A bigger spade would have got down quicker but I think a lot of the time the target might be in the sand that slips off the front and sides. I`ve seen video of the big scoops being used on the wet sand but not to any depth and think it would be hard to get them down deep enough because of the shape.
Will have to have a long think on this and see what I can come up with.

Have a look at the spade i use, this does dig deep, but there is a knack to using it ::g

Think its a food industry shovel, no metal on it so good for CS4PI, because you can sweep over target.

Was looking at that when I watched the video it looks good. Did a quick search and found this

Might get it in a few week to try.

Aaaah, now that looks good; maybe drill some holes in it to assist drainage!
