As long as you have a crown permit you can detect all along the west Sussex beach. I phoned the foreshores office a while ago and that's what they told me. I use the witterings beaches but if you have any doubts here is their number 01243 672133 .

Hi
Non Motion

I had a conversation this week with the crown estate .

They told me that you can detect up to shore rd

which is the boundary between east wittering and west wittering .
They also said west wittering is church property not crown ?

The crown estate said they lease the crown estate foreshore to chichester council.
So i phoned them and they said that if i had a crown estate foreshore permit
that would be OK as they don't issue permits
hope this helps

Climping beach is privately owned, West Wittering is owned by a trust estate, I phoned the estate office and they they do not mind beach detecting, Littlehampton is council owned. Check the foreshore maps on the crown estate website as they tell you where the crown foreshore starts and finishes. It is at http://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/media/1 ... h_east.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Hope this helps. :)

Im close also, will be on bognors beaches tomorrow. They have nice little foreshore office on promenade and popped in to be safe earlier, very helpful, Said basically do as u please, but warned against going too close to pier as get lot of needle users there at night and I don't fancy pulling any of those up!
