Considering the replies I got from my previous post, it appears, and please correct me if I am wrong, that the Deus' visual display numbers are "not entirely reliable" ? This machine, as with all their others, is audio-led ?
After posting a question with regard to numbers and targets and where they appear, I took heed of the advice yesterday and just "listened" - After getting a signal with high tones (running 3 tone Basic 1) coupled with low numbers (08) is quite clearly contradictory (to me anyways), but after digging the signal, the TID numbers now "jump up" to 60'ish and target is a small hammered Roman bronze.
Is this the way to operate the Deus ? Or are my settings cockeyed somewhat that I should be getting low numbers and high tones together ?
Just when I think I'm "getting" this machine, something comes along that makes me question it.
All help and advice gratefully received

Its like most detectors out there, I just moved up from a T2 to the Deus and I work them
both in the same way, If its a good clear repeatable signal dig it regardless of ID numbers.
Sometimes when you desturb the soil the signal will diminish signaling rubbish, then other
times the signal will get even stronger and clearer, good stuff. through time you'll get your
ear in to the tones that the machine is telling you. I dont care much for multi tones and mainly
stick to two tones, Ignore the grunts dig the highs keep it simple, saves you having to work the old
grey matter too much. I have a great way of seeting up the Deus to work on two tones that I learned
on another forum that allows grunts up to 30 disc while still running the machine on 5 disc let me know if you want these settings. they sound complicated at first but after putting them in it all becomes clear. BTW I love the Deus.

The thing to remember with these small roman bronze coins is that they are not always pure bronze, some have a lot of iron in them, plus other impurities, and some detectors will discriminate them out. also, if a small bronze coin is sitting either on its edge or at a slight angle then this can throw the signal and confuse the machine, a lot of machines in fact. this is where experience of your machine comes in.
I was using my deus on a site with a friend who uses the xp goldmax. the deus picked up a crappy signal yet the numbers were around the 90. my friend checked the signal and said he would not dig it as its iron. yet the numbers said dig on mine. so out popped the clod, he detected the clod and sure enough iron, he then checked the hole and a good signal was heard, it was a very nice roman bronze coin. its a better machine than some give it credit for, but its only down to the user, as with any machine, to learn it and get to know it and what it is telling you.
but at the end of the day, as with any detector out there, you need to be lucky enough to go over the find in the first place.
cheers, keith.

Yes Lucky enough to go over the find but knowing your machine enough to interpret the soundsgoldfinger wrote:The thing to remember with these small roman bronze coins is that they are not always pure bronze, some have a lot of iron in them, plus other impurities, and some detectors will discriminate them out. also, if a small bronze coin is sitting either on its edge or at a slight angle then this can throw the signal and confuse the machine, a lot of machines in fact. this is where experience of your machine comes in.

like you did yourself, you turned junk into treasure just through experience and knowing what
the Deus is telling you.

It took me longer than most folks to grasp what the various sounds were indicating.
The XP DVD helped to sort me out thanks to John Lynn (Norfolk Wolf RIP) and also Rogers version.
There will be a DEUS DVD out before too long from Roger.
You will get to a point where the DEUS sounds and numbers are understandable and if you don't believe what its telling you just prove the point by digging out the crap.
The only problem as with all machines is when items like ring pulls which can sound like hammies come up,but thats just something that we all have to put up with.
Happy Hunting.
Jerry.
