I dont think we are always alone detecting,i was trying some new permission in a valley last winter and felt there was someone stood behind me so much so i kept turning round and checking,as i was knelt down with my head in a hole a figure walked past me just out of sight but made me jump a mile, once i gave myself a talking to i carried on and it happened again. Some of the girls from the stable were riding in the next field and when i got back to the farm they asked where my mate was,i told them i was on my own and they told me there was another bloke stood behind me, weird stuff we cant explain,cd.

All these ghost stories remind me of a day out with my detector buddy Dave.

After a long day as it was getting dark we decided to call it a day. We got back in the car and just as we were about to set off for the long journey home an old man's face appeared on the passenger side and taps lightly on the window. Dave screams out, "eeeeekkk! Look at my window!!! There's an old guy's face there!, I think it's a ghost!"

This old man kept knocking, so I say, "Well open the window a little and ask him what he wants!" So Dave rolls his window down part way and said, scared out of his wits, "What do you want???" The old man softly replied, "You got a cigarette?" Dave, terrified, looked at me and said, "He wants a cigarette!" "Well offer him a cigarette! HURRY!!" I replied.

So he fumbles around with the pack and hands the old man a cigarette and yells, "Step on it!!!" rolling up the window in terror.

Now going about 80 miles an hour, we calm down and then start laughing. Then all of a sudden AGAIN there is a knock on the window and there is the old man again. "Aaaaaaaaaaaaauggggg, there he is again!" Dave yells. "Well see what he wants now!" i yell back

He rolls down the window a little ways and shakily says "Yes?" "Do you have a light?" the old man quietly asks.

Dave then threw the lighter out the window at him and rolls up the window then yells, "STEP ON IT!"

We are now going about 100 miles an hour, trying to forget what we had just seen and heard, when all of a sudden, again there is MORE knocking!
"Oh my God! HE'S BACK!" Dave rolls down the window and screams out, "WHAT DO YOU WANT?" in stark fear.

The old man gently replies, "You want some help getting out of this mud?"

cut it out willya ?....you lot are scaring the s**t out of me :D

I don't believe in ghosts and all this at all but I have had some weird things happen to me which is why I never ever watch scary movies..... shudder

My personal feeling is that the mind retains some experiences which resurface at random ....bit like when you feel the pain of a tooth yet it was removed years ago . Some people say they feel an itch or pressure on missing limbs.

If an invisible tea trolley had wheeled into a room which I was in alone in a remote place and a dissembodied voice had said 'tea Major?' I'd have died of fright on the spot :x|

In our younger days my bro had a massive coin collection which he used to shine up and put them on plaques with blue tac and put them on the bedroom wall. We used to live in a big Victorian house and one day while we were all downstairs watching tv my bro went to his bedroom only to find all his coins all over the bedroom floor and the plaques still hanging on the wall. Something had written his name on his mirror in old fashioned letters. Three letters "rob" with a little swirl through the "o" like a Q. The thing was no one was upstairs the whole time as we were downstairs in one room. We had quite a few incidents after that with whatever it was wrecking the bedrooms, wardrobe's pushed over, drawers out and clothes flung all over yet not a sound from upstairs while it was happening. We got used to it but after a year dad ended up getting a priest in from the local church while we were at school. Everything stopped after that.

I have a little theory about all this. I think at times whilst detecting our minds become so relaxed and calm that we start to tune in our 6th sense. How many times have u been out detecting for h ;) ours at a time and had a distinct feeling someone is watching you? A good example was a few months back I was out detecting and knew someone was watching. I knelt down, tried to subtly look round. In the far distance probably 300m away a woman was hanging out a window looking through a pair of bins.

I think that once the headphones go on we go into our own little world where we are concentrating so much that we allow ourselves to sense everything around us. Just my thoughts anyway...........
