Like me Andy its not what you find its the expectation of what you might find that makes the hobby enjoyable. Im going for a change of scenery tmoro off in search of coin tommy's treasure. May hit the beaches sunday or monday.. Got a long weekend off .. Yay!

great post, i have had many days like this with little or nothing to show for my effort but its all part of detecting, i enjoy all my trips, once i put my cans on all my worries disappear, sometimes ill get lucky but even if i only clear some nasty sharps from the beach im happy as it means that someone isnt going to have a bad experience come summer ::g

Yes a good thread this. Many a time I have come in at the end of a days detecting and one of my family will ask, "Well, what did you find", and I'd lay out my finds, all the small weird shaped bits of lead and other metals, maybe a bullet cartridge or two, an odd button, some decimal 1p or 2p, and I know their thinking, "'ell, the old fart been out 6 hours and spent all that money on equipment and all he's found is that". They would say, " aaaaah...... nice, as long as you enjoyed it". If only they knew how much I had enjoyed it. Often I would say, its not what I found today its what I may have found.

Mind you, that day I found my first Hammy it took my missus 5 hours to talk me down from the ceiling....
.. yup, nothing beats this hobby ::g.

A great post.
It reassures us beginners that we are on the right track and not everyone else is hoarding their gold :)
Like you guy's, Dawn and myself count it as a nice day out with the bonus of some good finds from time to time.

Good hunting.
