Nice haul there and one to be expected from Felixstowe =))
Hope you track down some local anglers next time out and trade those weights in, Liam :;@

The bullet heads are 50 Cal, one on right is a Tracer, RRPG will give you the low down on how safe they are, he advised me not to poke around in the ends as they can contain phosphorous

Nice finds ::g

all that lead could be worth a few quid at the local scrap metal dealers but they will or should only issue you with a cheque now which is a bit of a pain ,but no probs if you have a bank account . or you could put them on a well know site folks always buying them. if i was nearer i would make you an offer but not coming your way for a while

The left and right bullets have been fired as they have nice rifleing marks from the gun barrels,would have thourght fired ones would be safe,wouldnt the tracer burn out when fired :-/

Hi,

This is a common misunderstanding, there can be all sorts of scary chemicals in fired rounds like incendiary and amour piecing rounds, some of which are ileagal to own, even if they have been fired, the double banded rounds are in this category

PS here is an example, can't remember what this one is though

Hi there,
The two .50 cals on the left could be ball ammo but to be certain if you have a fairly strong magnet then see if they will attach to it. If they do then they are probably armour piercing as ball ammo only contains copper and lead neither are magnetic. This is something I recommend for anyone who finds any .50 cal bullets. Also standard ball ammo is usually filled to base of bullet with lead but not a guarantee so magnet test is best to make sure you stay legal as armour piercing is classed under section 5. The .50 cal on right should be tracer but a word of caution I have found a couple of .50 cals the same shape but with blue paint on the tips indicating that they were incendiary. Is there any filling in the bullet and if so could you tell me what colour if any it is? or better still could you post a picture of the base of all three bullets,thanks.

Hi,
thanks for photos,my guess is that the straight sided one is not tracer as have never seen tracer element coming out of bottom of bullet (also the tracer element usually has a bit of the original colour in it i.e red,green etc). It could be a armour piercing incendiary which would account for it sticking to magnet and explain the compound coming out of the base. One bullet that I found but which had a blue tip (indicating that it was incendiary) but was the same shape looked exactly like your bullet with what I believe is the incendiary compound coming out of the bullet. The middle one is definitely armour piercing( I believe that if you could clean the hole out at the base you would find a same void as most armour piercing rounds had a small amount of tracer in the base. The one on the right in the photo also appears to be another type of armour piercing bullet as it sticks to a magnet. Hope this helps.
