Don't know what is wrong with people, why there seems to be a need to interfere with what others are doing is beyond me.

Lol I always enjoy a bit of company down there but I think the scrap is too much for them. Had a good chat with a few wanna be Tectorist's who bought a machine and just need a kick start to get going. I'm always available for info for those that want it :D. Now get off my beach ;)

I don't get what is wrong with asking if you were legit... may have been the way he did it, but in principle its a good thing that we police each other... maybe when you see me dressed up in my combats, dodgy coat, and shin pad youy'll ask me if I have permission.,,,,, permission to be wearing such a ridiculous outfit!!! I blame Roaminrob ::g ::g ::g ::g ::g
So if you could clear up one thing for me is it a crown permit or crown estae licence or both for filey ... HH John

Not been on beaches all that much but have only had polite interest from other beach users when I've been out. If the old guy had his suspicions he could have approached you in a more appropriate manner. Sound like he may have been greedy if he was stroppy with you from the off?

Far as I'm concerned,if your not wearing a police uniform,or carrying warrant card, council id card.
yOU HAVE NO AUTHORITY TO ASK FOR ANY PERMIT/PERMISSION,I HAVE!!!

It is supposed to be council permission as its not on the crown estate map, but i would not worry i have known people metal detect filey for 30+ years with no problems! The only thing i ever remember was when i was young a man md'ing around sunbathers and was carted off by a local bobbie.... but no-one is silly enough to do that he he

we were up in Filey a few years back & I would have never even thought of getting council permission to detect the beach, when you are on Holiday going to be messed around at the council office is my very last thought. at least I know now to contact them if we go on hols that way again B-)
