The disgruntled guy wasn't called Johnny Ball by any chance ? He will be in his eighties by now . I ran into him years ago on Scarborough . If it is he has not changed .

Hi all,
I think i've met the guy you talk about on Scarborough beach, certainly fits the descripion, he started telling me how good detecting was at Tickhill Doncaster, which is the area he came from, however, he says he lives in Scarborough now, was fit considering his age.

How many people detecting on the beach has, he gone upto who have not had a permit. A lot of newbies on here did not know until they where told a permit was needed. So at a guess i would say 30% of people detecting would not have a beach permit.

Ive got to say that i havnt got a permit off the local council where i detect on the beach. Never been approached by anybody unfriendly either. May just be lucky! Will have to consider getting one , i think after this thread.

On Sunday afternoon me and Ribeye went to the south beach for the last hour, when we got there we were stopped by a police man who warned us of a 30 year old local man who was going around threating folk, however he had no problems with us detecting, even wished us luck. I have noticed dog walkers photographing detectorists on there phones when there not lucking, weather this is to support a complaint....?. Pity they don't take as much interest in cleaning up after there dogs.

totally agree
i love dogs but have found the beaches a bit on the grungy side
needles and dog poo dont make for a happy days detecting ;;z ;;z
