This is something I posted on another thread and I am going to repeat it here as I think it suits this thread also as there is far too much emphasis on using the stock programs! This is a top notch metal detector!! and by just using the stock programs you are simply missing out on so much that this detector can offer!

Dig anything over 25, if you don't, you 'could' be missing out on coins and artefacts!!
People read far too much into numbers and figures on detectors. If your getting what you would consider to be a 'good' signal, DIG IT, no hesitation.
I use my Deus on one program/setting and one program/setting only, I simply adjust the settings within that program to suit where and on what I am detecting. Non of this switching around between 'programs' Can't see the point to be honest but thats how I have LEARNT to USE my Deus.
I learn't what 'every' setting did and have been out and learn't what each setting does and how it affects what happens in your ears. If this isn't done then you are NOT getting all out of your Deus that you can.
Why would you pay circa £1000 for a detector that you never get to know how to drive properly? It's like buying a BMW M3 and only driving the kids to school in it.

I find it so hard to understand anyone digging Iron, that they don't want, with this detector? Even the stock programs 'TELL' you when not to dig especially when it comes to Iron.

Please also see my thread about the 13" coil I have just got and look at the post where I suggest my settings. I have had over 20 Hammered coins in the last 9 months with these settings, 5 of them farthing sized silvers and many artefacts as well. I have never during that time dug one bit of Iron.

These settings work believe me but you have to tinker with individual settings to suit where and on what you are detecting.

Hope this helps you :)

cheers jim, you're right. i'm sure once i'ved got the hang of it there will be no looking back. it's obviously a top notch detector so for the time being it's down to driver error. i'm sure it won't take long. but so far only had about 4 - 5 hours with it. as i said i didn't find it beat the gmp but i definetly picked a few nice bits at 5 or so inches deep that other detectors had left behind. i've got a pasture field that was once ploughed and there is a very productive area that i.ve found a lot of cutlery and broken cutlery and a lot of bag seals and i have slaughtered this area (could have been a break and meeting point for all the farm workers maybe?). went back over it yesterday and got a thimble and a thrupence so can't be bad.
i think the deus will take a lot more learning than the gmp did though.
cheers johno

if you really listen to the tone, iron signals are quite scratchy sounding....i spent around two months without using my control unit and it taught me soooooooo much about the tones.

Please take some time out with some bits and bobs (coins, hammies and iron of differing sizes) putting them on the ground in different positions. Then swing over with different settings especially disc you will be surprised at what leval you need the disc to get the best out of your machine. At level 10 I find it difficult to pick up a Eddy penny within 1" of a iron nail however drop it to 5 and you will get a diggable signal with the nail sat ontop of the penny. Use too high a disc setting at your peril. I also in 2 years of using the Deus never dug anythin other than coke between 20 and 32 so now even if the tone is saying get ya spade in and dig me up I just walk on by (occasionaly I will do a test dig and it is always coke). I have used many others settings over the time I have had the machine and am currently using Roger Relics settings (just 6 hours so far) with some success.

Hope this helps Paul
