Plastic cover

Post by Collman »

Hi.... I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on the plastic protection cover on the coil of the detector. If i keep this on all the time will it inhibit the performance of the machine?? :-/

Keep it on mate, the difference in performance is negligible if at all. ::g ::g Also saves wearing your coil out on rough, abrasive ground. ::g ::g

I asked the exact same question when I started and was told to keep it on. 6 months in I can see why.
The coil cover gets scratched up easily especially if you are working on ploughed or stoney ground. And as for signal loss, well when I'm a foot down in the hole for a tiny metal find I'm reassured that the coil cover does not effect the performance of the detector at all.

And for a few quid I can buy another cover and the coil looks new again. ::g

Keep it on mate, for the sake of a tenner. Ive only had my AT pro a couple of months and some of the scratches on the bottom of the cover are shocking, even if your really careful with it like I am you will be suprised how easy it picks up damage. ::g

When I first started detecting it was from scratch. I new nobody who detected did not even go on the net at the time. So for the first few times out I took it off, lucky I did not do any damage. This is why I think it is so important that anyone getting in to the hobby should join this site and stay "Plugged In". This form is a great tool that will make you a better detectorist. ::g
