Iron River Find

Hi found this leather cutting knife in the tidal river not to sure of the age but looks old to me has some punch marks but i can not read them found with the lazer B3 out in the water not very deep picked out with magnet stick.

No it is a leather cutting knife for sure it only small as you can see from the CM scale.

Certainly a very unusual find,was that with the magnet on the rope job ??? i may take mine out later on this afternoon and see what i can pull out ::g

Hi i have a strong mag on a stick that i use to sus out and lift iron when in the water i did post some pics of it will find one and put on in a mow.

Yep i remember,me brain went dead for a moment,so do you use that just by its self or with a magnet on a rope as well ??? think i may well attempt to make one of those magnet on a stick jobs myself ::g

Just on the end of the pole it will lift over 20 pounds in weight got the mag from fleebay for £11.00 and made the pole on my lathe.

They turn up on the Thames foreshore quite often, yours will be 17/18c the marks will be makers marks, should clean up ok, Sometimes if you get lucky the mark have brass inlaid

Yes i have found some nice iron finds from the water got part of a sword.a big crossbow projectile,some old gun bits big iron keys.

Yes had to scratch my head when i pulled up out of the water i would like to get a better date on it may take to our local museum let them have a look.
