Deus & tractors GPS - be wary!

Post by liamnolan »

A few of us out on a very large field yesterday, four of us with the Deus and a tractor was working nearby seeding, no probs usually but this huge tractor had a GPS mast on it and apparently all they do is input the map of the field and the GPS "sees" the field and knows exactly where to go.
About 30 mins into the detecting I noticed that the tractor kept coming very close, then stopping until we moved on a bit, then starting up again. I know most of the drivers, so I went over to have a chat when it came close and had stopped again.
The driver was all very apologetic and said that there was a problem with the GPS as it had gone all wonky. He asked me to switch the Deus off, so I did and the GPS then worked fine. We experimented a bit more with the Deus controls and it seems that within 20m the signal off the Deus scrambles the GPS signal! This resulted in the GPS wanting to get nearer to the Deus signal, the driver then had to manually steer away from us and that was a big problem to us!
We had to pack up and move to another field and all was ok but I thought I would mention this as the drivers tend to not have their hands on the steering wheels and leave it all to the GPS signal, but if it comes within 20m of a Deus it will go off track towards the Deus.
So, don't get squashed and beware of tractors with GPS, Liam ;;z b;>

Hi Liam, my mates dad has this system on his farm so I will mention it to him. I wonder if it is just the Deus or if other Detectors throw out a similar signal :-/

We had a Garratt and a Minelab that had wired coils, no probs with them, seems its the wireless waves? Those tractor wheels are bloody huge! Liam sw;

See it now ... You doing a massive figure of eighth sweep with the deus then standing there watching the tractor copy it =))

Wonder if it works with a combine harvester ...the crop circle brigade would have a field day :D :D
