Gold, Gold and yet more Gold !

Post by Machinist »

Had good day out on a well known Yorkshire beach that never seems to stop giving up the good stuff and this is what I found :D

Image

Diamond cluster ring, Victoria young head Half Sovereign and an 18 carat signet ring. I also found lots of coin and was using my Crossbow Classic PI detector. The diamond ring was on exposed clay just slightly pressed in to it but was visible as soon as I got the signal as were many modern coins.

The next find was the signet ring in a different area but only a couple of inches down on the clay again, I also found pre decimal coins in that area. I moved along the beach towards another detectorist who turned out to be Midas off this board and had a natter to him.

After saying goodbye to Midas I returned to the area I found the first ring in as there was a big pool of water there and I was hoping it had drained a bit. Anyway it had not gone down much so nothing for it but wade in. I got a few coins of the exposed clay in the water then got a signal from what looked like a penny in the murk but picking it up I had a feeling I had got the ID wrong for a change. Yes it is a Victoria Half Sovereign the first Gold coin I have ever found in 24 years detecting.

So if you see Midas on a beach go and have a word with him and you may be digging up Gold.

Its better out of the ground and in your hand for the history or monetary value rather than left in the ground to rot doing nothing for anyone.
