Filey Beach

Post by FileyLad »

Just returned from a short trip to the beach near my home (FILEY), where i know a lot of the people i see and have lived near them my whole life. There was 1 more gold seeker down there with me(with a box on his front) leaving HUGE holes open all across the beach.

Now this story starts really when i was talking to one of my dads friends, and all of a sudden a woman starts walking towards me. I presumed she wanted to know about what i have found, but oh no, she had come to give me a talking to about the big holes i had been leaving as her daughter had just fallen down one(4/5 inches deep) to which all i could do is apologize even though they were not even my holes(all filled in as flat as i could get them)...

Please,Please act responsibly and not stupidly, your not children!

I am not at all sorry for this rant, as it is how i feel. I understand small holes as children dig these, but holes 12 inches wide by 5 inches deep is too much and just LAZY.

Cheers guys

It happens mate (not too often on ours thankfully) and it all goes towards the council taking no more risks and banning it altogether. Only takes a few phone calls from angry members of the public to ruin it for everyone.

The bloke is well known on the Yorkshire coast, Still uses a old Goldscan. But he spends most of his time in Spain these days so not about much longer. I don't post any Digging pics from East/North Yorkshire now, As the local diggers are P****d off with people just looking at forums for site info. Some Visitors have even said just that to a Couple detectorists from Filey. Sooner the Beach sand over again the better ::g

Hi all
It a real shame that grown men cannot do the right thing and regards photo's if it bothers folk that much lets stop posting them...? The impression iam starting to see is some Filey lads don't want any one else on from other areas, however, could the same be said about Filey lads when they go on a dig.
One fellow has pulled me a couple of times about where i live and i can tell he does not like it but i more or less grew up at Cayton Bay infact i've spent more time there than he's lived there.
This same man told me how he was detecting one of the parks when a council man stoped him and said he had been reported by the public and would he stop what he's doing and go, he replied "i have not left any holes so whats your problem", he said he waited for the council man to walk away and then went and did it again but this time did a flower bed that was being prepared for planting, the council returned and said he had been reported again and if he did not stop the police would be called.
This chap said the same again to my mates on Sunday. He his a nice fellow, however, it beggers believe...?
This is in no way designed to offend any one and if it does i'll say sorry now.

Its a strange set up when locals of the area think only they have all the rights to beaches were they live lol. Public beaches are not only for local people only but are open to anyone in Britain I'm afraid, even non local detectorists keep the local economy thriving the amount of fish chips I hear there munching all the time lol.
I welcome all visitors digging our local beach and also offer info of were to search. Its a bloody big beach and 100 diggers a day wouldn't empty it in 100 years. I do however disagree with the unfilled hole nuggets but a quiet word like "I have to fill all my holes cos the council have been watching" hopefully will get the point over, its worked in the past. Sorry to upset anyone but locals don't have the sole rights to any beach no matter how much they work it, ME included

Did you find much mate? I have been stuck working a lot recently, so only getting out for the odd hour here and there. Surprised that bloke is up Filey, he tends to spend his time on the Brid beach's, But they are sanded in, sure he told me he was back off to Spain end of April. ::g

Hi lads couldn't agree more about all your comments, the guy that approached rattzz about digging up the flower beds told me the same story and told to leave by the council and went back, he also said to me that he would go back on a night to detect it, I had to bite my lip as there was a lot of people around with children at the time, I just walked away from him B| B| B| B| .
At 1 point I thought that the finger was pointing at me as ive just made a large sandscoop and tried it out last sunday but I always fill in my holes..

I agree with Tomo, the beaches are for all to use. the locals do get a bigger hack at them as most of us have to travel long distances to get to them & try to time the tides as well. but it works both ways we get farm feilds to detect on. and I am certain that if a farmer noticed big holes all over the place He would kick you off his land & that would be the last to detect on his land. common sence says to act responsibly and not only fill the holes back in, but take the junk away and bin it ::g
