WWII various items

Post by lobstamanfrommars »

Hi all

1st post of what I hope will be many to come. I thought I'd share a few of the better items I've come across on a WWII era site in the south west. All items have been found with my Fisher F2, some American and some British. I've done a little bit of research but if anyone has further info that be great. I've given some of them a bit of a clean with water but that's it.

75mm M5 A1 Type 1 shell case - Most likely from a Howizter I believe

40mm Bofor Anti Aircraft casings, one has a stamp on the side where as the other is on the base. Both marked as 1943

Various 50 cal cases & one bullet

A Royal Engineers badge, probably off of a hat. It was bent in half but with a bit of gentle work in the vice it straightened out nicely :)

I'm not surprised to have found the Bofor cases as there are a number of airfields & ammo dumps near me. Luftwaffe flying to Bristol would have probably been targeted too but the 75mm is a bit of a mystery. There is no range near me for a good 20 miles or so. Could this have been used by something other than a Howizter?

Thanks

Some nice finds. Wonder where the top of the cap badge disappeared off to ? :)

The M5A1 shell was indeed a howitzer type, used in various formats both towed and chassis mounted. Nice find :)
