Fun with kids in the beach - NOT

Post by evee2000 »

Beautiful day in the North East yesterday. Thoroughly enjoyed just strolling along at the edge of the waves, swinging my detector an drinking in the sunshine. Kid approaches me. I'm always happy to show my finds to anyone that shows any interest. "What are you doing"? - looking for metal. "Can I have a go"? - no "how much does it cost"? - lots. I continue on my way and hear the kid's family start to laugh hysterically behind me. I notice a little shadow behind, copying my every move. I give no reaction and continue on. Obviously not content at this, he proceeds to walk in front of me (facing me) kicking up his legs in front of my swinging detector. Then starts doing star jumps and generally just being a pain in the @rse. Parents continue to laugh. Other people stare in dis belief at the little toe rag. I can't continue without side swiping his legs from under him (tempting though). Pop my tector under my arm and keep walking, giving no reaction (but fuming inside). Yes the clampits were on a day trip yesterday :(
My treasures do not click together or glitter. They gleam in the sun and neigh in the night.

The little bit of beach detecting I have done I have always chosen the last few hours of the day, tourists packed up and left or leaving, temperatures down, tide out hopefully and nobody to have to chat with unnecessarily. I would not attempt to try to detect when the beach is in use by beachgoers, would not work for me and I have seen detectorists weaving in and around people relaxing in the sunshine and making a nuisance of themselves.
Kids are kids I suppose, best avoided if you want to enjoy detecting, Liam ::g

What I would have done is behead the little git with my spade and then laugh like a madman

Ok maybe not but very tempting!

This is why I hate detecting on the beach ... Too many people!!

I tend to keep away from the sunbathers and families - but I don't mind if they walk over for a chat. Unfortunately ignorant parents were to blame in this situation. I have two grown up sons and would have been horrified if mine had behaved so poorly as youngsters !!

It is not only kids !! On one occasion I was detecting our local beach and a well known busybody stopped me by grabbing my arm and asked what I was doing. "Well" I Said "it's a new E.U. regulation. The beach has to be ironed once a year and I have got the job to do it". She muttered something then waked off but a few minutes later was talking to somebody else and kept pointing in my direction !! 8-|
