Help Please on Ammo Boxes Rescued From Skip

Post by stanslad »

Hi All
Not detector finds,but could put the military finds in them I suppose! Not been out for ages after op on shoulder, back at work now but just riding round the sites we're working at, went today to see 2 lads working at a big old empty house near Banbury,that's being gutted before building work starts, they were stripping out electrics in the cellar which was being cleared out in to a few skips outside, managed to save these 2 boxes, any date & info would be great please, does the 64 at end of numbers on metal box mean 1964 & any ideas on date of wooden mortar box,
Thanks for looking & good luck detecting out there,
Clint ::g

Small one is for 200 rounds of GPMG ammo Clint, ball and tracer and yes,1964 the two dates will be the manufacture dates of the two different types to the best of my knowledge ::g :D :D ::g

The other one is for a 2" mortar mate, for the tube rather than the bombs, on the side is C Coy, so it was the transit case for C company's 2" Mortar tube :D :D :D ::g

Yep the small box was for Jimpy rounds. Heavy when full.

Infantry bods would know the larger wooden box no probs.

Great salvage - I wouldn't mind owning them.
