Quick trip to Runswick Bay

Post by FredyBs »

Hi All,

I thought I would share a little bit of my beach detecting effort from earlier today. First, just a brief detail about my efforts so far with metal detecting on the beach. I'm quite a newby in metal detecting, I bought a second hand MineLab Xterra 30 and I'm still trying to learn how to properly use this machine. It is very simple but on the beach it seems to have temper of its own. Perhaps its just me, but it seems that I can't adjust the sensitivity very well. I use some discrimination to eliminate the non-ferrous metals but I find it difficult to locate good signals. The machine beeps all the time I go around and on some occasions I find a good signal. It the wet sand it seems to struggle significantly. I even tried it with a 5p coin I stuck in the sand only 1/2 inch deep, and the machine couldn't find it when I started hoovering above the coin, very strange.

I wonder if there is anyone with more experience in the Teesside area to join him/her on the beach to help me understand the method of metal detecting on the beach a bit better.

Any why these are my finds from the 3 1/2 hrs Image

Thanks

I did Runswick beach two years ago, stopped for a can of pop sat on the boat ramp just to watch the world go by.
One of the boat owners approached me and pointed to a sign on the wall "No holes to be dug on this beach". I just smiled at him.
Later that day I was further down near the cliffs when the same boat owner came running up the beach " Hey mate my wife has lost my boat key on the beach can you help use find it? "
I might just have to dig a hole I said.
I did find the key he got me a coffee as a thank you.
Enjoy you're detecting

a few thoughts ... as Winston Churchill once said "never never never give up"
and as I have learnt when coin shootring just forget the 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p coz you will be dead way before you get rich ... and anyways digging all those 1p's will kill and demoralise you...
Just stick to the 50p , £1 and £2 coin signals ,,,, that way you may manage to pay for yr petrol ... and you'll feel great about leaving all those 1p's for the kids to find with their toy tectors...
