Experiences with the V 3.0 and 3.1 share post

Post by Danzigman »

Lets share..

Im no gure, no geek, no nothing.. just a ordinary detectorist.. How do you feel.. :-/

I tryed it out for 1½ hour today.. Not impressed.. have way over 300 hours in V 2.0 and now feel a bit lost.. Nothing clear anymore.. Did like the Non Motion Audio Discrimination a lot though.. Could easy search in that mode.. I think I go back to V 2.0..
Havent tried it on the beach yet..
Thanks for sharing and reading.. ::g

positives:
-pinpoint mode easier to use (but too loud when using speaker only)
-on beach, easier to not detect bottle caps (but maybe it discrims out something else when doing so?)
-more program slots

negatives:
-digging loads more iron
-depth meter seems 'wrong' on targets
-getting iron tones on known good items
-cant save program setups in the pre-set modes
-gold nugget mode almost useless for UK

unknown if just new in v3 or was in v2 as well:
-hollow 9ct gold items show up as iron on the meter ;;z

Suggestions for changes (no idea if possible or not):
-Should be a volume control option for the speaker.
-pinpoint mode with depth meter

Will give it a bit longer but think I'm going back to V2. Digging way too much iron even at shallow depths.
Current setup:
XP Deus v2.0, MINELAB Equinox 800 v1.7.5, GARRETT Pro-Pointer

Updated to the new V3.1 and it seems that things are back to normal on the field I have open and not under crop.
This field is littered with iron, but is an old roman site, and I usually can manage about half dozen grots in an hour if I take it slow and sift through the rubbish using FAST.
After my initial update from V2 to V3.0 I did find the VDI were well off - with most of my coins sounding very irony and the numbers all over the shop ( they usually come in around 60-70 ).
As a result I was digging lots of iron and ignoring possible targets.
Upgraded to the new V3.1 this morning and took the dog for a walk on the field and sure as nuts - one hour, six little bronze coins, coming in clear and correct on the numbers and tones....... So it seems that whatever was causing folk to "kick-off" has, it appears, been sorted.

There is still a lot of iron buzz but perhaps I need to try it on some clean pasture, the field I have DOES have lots of iron.

what settings did you use.. ? I had large problems separating - only in NMAD ( non motion) I could hear the iron.. And didnt pay much attention to low numbers..

i used v3.1 today and i thought it was a lot better than v3.0 , i didn't find a great deal of good stuff but what i did find was ringing out sweet as a nut. And i think the depth was better , Settings i used were Deus fast , discrimination 5, sensitivity 88, reactivity 2 , ground balance tracking and that was it :D

Attention to this: In profile : ID NORM YES or NO (Standardization of the targets ID)
Let users know that the 18 KHz frequency target ID value is the one that is used to normalise the target ID values in the other frequencies.

I haven't tested out what this does, but this is mentioned in other forums.

Allso take attention If you change Reactivity, the silencer change allso... And that could effect the iron trouble. Silencer 2 is a good recommendation at Reactivity 2, but If you increase up to reac.3 the silencer drops down to -1, and that could Be to low !

Allso Keep an eye at the mineralization strenght ! To high isn't good. In my case I had problems with that. I wouldn't use Auto GB on areas with to much trash, it seem to have effect to the settings. Manuel GB as high as possible ( up to 90 ) helped in my case to stabilize my deus.
Pumping said 82/83 - Auto went from 78-90 up and down, mustly at 85-90, so I ended up at man.87 and that help me. ( the area was full of trash and lot of iron ).
Notch Ground is a new option. That I must look in to soon.

For Ground Balance you find an Expert menu with GB Notch. This is on by default. Recommended setting to get crispier signals: OFF.
Best greetings from Germany
