Deus WS5 headphones

Post by stubble hunter »

Have been waiting for proper cup phones since buying my Deus 2 years ago...
These certainly are the business but come at a price naturally (£290 Leisure Promotions) - but these certainly appear to be be the creme de la creme (and waterproof too). I had always found the back phones uncomfortable on my half balding head too !
So a few questions...
How balanced/well fitted to the head are these ? I had read a comment that when bending down they can slip off ? I'm not sure of the weight of these at present..
And do they really block off most external noise ? motorway traffic etc.
If I go for these then I will effectively have 2 machines. I have a spare coil and upper arm and the original controller. The backphones I hate can go and do I really need the cheap wired ones I have been using now. I would always need both coils as the small coil is great in between those shallow stubble rows. Though I find I'm using the large coil for most situations now.
But I am now asking myself do I really need the original controller ? Would I be better off flogging it baring in mind that the cost of a brand new one is nearly £700 :-O (see ebay).
If the headphones do exactly what the controller does (plus you get the head phones) then I could flog the controller (not sure what they go for 2nd hand mind) ,get another pair of WS5 headphones for £290. I would still have 'another machine' as a result and have cash to spare !
Am I missing anything here ?
Would welcome comments ::g
Cheers !
John
p.s. I think the WS5's have a 5 year warranty too ?

Hi John, my mate has only got the earphones, and I think I am right in saying that if you want to adjust your programs at any time you cannot gain access to the expert menu without the remote, please correct me anyone if I am wrong.

Thanks Geoff. Makes sense and would explain the disparity in price between the two. Perhaps there would have been a weight issue had XP tried to emulate all the controller into the WS5 ?

I have the WS5 Headphones, even though they are of a fairly high price they are of really nice quality, build and sound ::g
Personally speaking I have no issue at all with the backphones as they almost feel weightless once on, you can also wear a cap with them which helps also B-)

But when the colder weather approaches the backphones will take a back seat and the WS5`s will come out ::g B-)

I certainly like them, and now use nothing else even though I thought that the back-phones might come out in the summer weather. ;) Jerry.

Excellent vid mrix ::g
Just got my WS5's today.
First thing to do was to charge them up.
Then I updated them to ver 3.1.
Menu is straightforward and very responsive.
However I cant get the headphones to find the coil.
So what am I missing?
The controller is switched on and set to coil 1. Headphones set to coil 1.
If I switch the controller to external speaker no probs but switching to headphones. .... Silence and coil bar showing empty
Help !

Hi I had the same problem, you just need to pair them again by putting in the coils serial number ::g
Its a little unclear / confusing because it only allow you see 2 digits at a time.
Hope this helps.

Procedure if you have forgotten
1) Press menu until you reach COIL

2) Choose the flashing free slot with - and + for example 02
(01 is already assigned to the original coil).

3) Press + for 5 seconds to switch to serial number entry mode.

4) With - AND + enter the first digit of the serial number then
validate it with menu button
Continue in this way until you reach the sixth digit.
The new coil is now operational in this slot and should become active.

Cheers

Guys
I am looking at buying the Deus with control box and headphones but still not sure which ones to buy. Danzigman has suggested buying the WS4 package (£1230 Regton) and a pair of Chef CP6 for £50. Or I could buy the WS5 package (£1269) and buy a WS4 headband for £11.95.

Can you tell me if the headset module, which unclips from the WS5 merely clips on to the replacement head band to make an operational set of WS4?

it seems too easy and cheap to be that simple!

cheers
Si
