Deus waterproof?

Post by aggieuk »

Hi all, when I read about the Deus on the forums I'm sure I read that the kit is waterproof? But I've just read the manual and it says the remote and the headphones need to be cleaned with a damp cloth as they aren't waterproof??? Can anyone vouch for any of this or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

yep its true im afraid....although the headphones are waterproof to certain degree, the remote is not. and I for one don't want to put it to the test as they are a chuffin fortune to replace.....better to be safe than sorry. ::g

Cheers guys, i must say I'm a bit gutted now, after spending £1300 for a detector that isn't even water proofed! Oh well, no detecting in the rain then...... Bugger!

I keep the control in my pocket and wear the headphones under a hat if it's damp or there's a bit of rain in the air ;) ::g

As most of you know I have used the Deus for nearly 4 years and in all weathers.

While the controller has one of the scottish covers on it for protection from damage and the elements I have never ever had a problem with water ingression to the unit.

The coil of course is 100% waterproof and I wear a hat to cover the headset whatever machine Iam using. ;) Jerry.

Well it looks like i'm going to have to get myself a hat then! Hopefully through the summer i can get to know the sounds etc and after that maybe just use the headphones under a hat. At least then the £600 remote stays well and truely in the dry!

99% of detectors arent "waterproof" most are "weather resistant" meaning they can handle a small amount of rain if you get caught out but wont handle imersion or sustained rain.

Hi There the control is not waterproof but because it is so easy detached it can be waterproofed in a number of ways some users put it in a plastic ziplock bag or you should have received a leather case which it can be put in, You can detect in the rain so long as you take the necessary precutions of not getting the Control wet.Put it in a plastic bag put it in your pocket and when you get a signal take itout of your pocket to see what it is telling you, then put it away again. hey presto!!!

I've got myself one of the neoprene covers now and a nice waterproof mountain hat to protect my backphones so i'm ready for some wet weather detecting!

I was out last weekend and it did start to rain a little which worried me as I had no cover for the Remote control :-O :(
I knew there was one being sold on our auction site site thought I would purchase it as it comes from the dealer who sells the pinpointer holster and that great New finds pouch ::g B-)
Having received it a couple of days ago I am very pleased with it as it fits really snug and of high quality / strong etc.
If anyone is interested in this Deus remote control cover please click here for more info and purchase price - Deus Remote Control Cover

I have tested this plastic bag and red 'Post Man' rubber band (delivered free to our driveway every few days)

Worked very well in heavy rain and thick mud - just chuck the bag when I get home.

No expense spared on my £1,200 detector rl;

That`s a fair point and idea Dave :)
I think I will stick with my cover though ::g
As you say its a 1,200 machine so spending £5.99 I guess is justified on something so important!
Cheers
